The 2003 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship marked my debut to professional Long Drive competition and was one of the most exciting times of my life! Everything came down to the last shot in the final round of competition, under the lights, in front of thousands of spectators and ESPN cameras.
There is something immensely satisfying about being able to perform when everything is on the line and you absolutely must hit the shot of your career. Then, you do it. That's why people love the game of golf so much and why the sport of Long Driving is so exciting.
Just to top it off, I proposed to Maureen from the tee box. It's hard to imagine a better day. Catch the entire show on ESPN2 this Christmas eve at 10:30 pm Eastern (7:30 pm Pacific time), and again on December 28th on ESPN1 at 1:00 Eastern (10:00 am Pacific time).
Jerry Trask of DynamicGolf.com built the clubs I use in Long Drive competition, and I'm proud to be an Elite Member of the Alpha Reaction and Dynamicgolf.com Long Drive teams. During the World Championships I hit an Alpha Reaction C830-2 club head with a Harrison shaft.
The winning drive came on a 5 degree Alpha Reaction C830-2 and measured 381 yards 33 inches, setting the distance record for seniors in the finals. Winning the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship gave me an automatic invitation to next year's Re/Max Championship as well as a 5-year exemption to all LDA Tour competitions. In 2004 I plan to compete regularly on the LDA Tour, which has announced stops in the following cities: ALBUQUERQUE, NM; CHICAGO, IL; DES MOINES, IA; MADISON, WI; ROCHESTER, NY; TULSA, OK; TORONTO, CANADA, with the season-ending Tour Championship to be announced.
2004 also marks the inaugural coverage of LDA events as part of ESPN2's new "Game Room" programming, which will debut next summer on Monday nights and feature a 30-minute highlight show called "Inside The LDA" featuring news, highlights, tournament recaps, LDA player profiles and more. There will be 6 shows, each aired 4 times through the month.
2004 was my first year on the Long Drive Tour and I could not have been happier with the results. I had much to learn about how to compete week in and week out against the quality competition out there, how to travel, and how to handle the pressures of being away from home and my family. But I was honored again at the end of the year by winning the 2004 Senior Rookie of the Year award.
Along with competing on the Pro Long Drive Tour I perform exhibitions at corporate golf outings and hit balls for charity golf tournaments. I am available for private and group golf lessons, and I specialize in POWER GOLF. I use the latest in video and laser technology to analyze a player's swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rates, ball flight, and swing path to help golfers reach their maximum driving distance.
